Typical porpoise surface behaviour. Can be a single animal or a group of animals. Slow rolling, side by side This is same behaviour as above but with the animals close together and surfacing and submerging together. Fast surfacing Porpoise breaks the surface quickly and creates a splash. Milling Porpoise staying in the same general area while surfacing in different directions. Generally applied to a group but can be a single animal or a pair. Breaching Porpoise leaps clear of the water. Bow riding Porpoise riding the bow wave of a vessel. Wake riding Porpoise riding the stern wave of a vessel. Resting Porpoise remaining at surface, and appearing motionless from the surface. This behaviour doesn't usually last long. Foraging Usually applied if porpoise are working a tide line or other oceanographic feature. Travelling Porpoise moving in a clear direction. Can be a group or single animal.
