Porpoises are some of the world's smallest whales. They aren't as popular as many of their whale and dolphin cousins and are often overlooked. Help us protect and raise awareness for these small cetaceans with the symbolic adoption of a porpoise.

Like other small whales, porpoises are affected by human activity, some species more than others. The small vaquita porpoise for instance, endemic to a small patch of ocean in the Gulf of California in Mexico, is critically endangered ─ with less than 30 animals believed to remain. This species has declined dramatically over the course of several decades. These small cetaceans frequently get entangled and drown in fixed fishing nets – a major threat to all small cetaceans. Annually, more than 300,000 whales, porpoises and dolphins get entangled in nets.

There are other factors as well: habitat destruction and displacement as a result of coastal development, ocean noise (from vessels or construction activity, such as pile-driving), ocean pollution and even active hunting in some parts of the world.
