Abstract

Stenurus australis n. sp. (Nematoda: Pseudaliidae) found in the nasal and cranial sinuses of Phocoena spinipinnis (Burmeister, 1865) is described. The hosts were obtained at the Chimbote, Ancash (09°04’S-78°35’W) and Chorrillos, Lima (12°10’S-77°01’W), fishing harbors of Perú.
The new species differs from its congeners by having in each of the two lateral rays a pedunculated medial papilla on its inner surface; bursa with distinct dorsal lobe and lips of vulva without digitiform appendages.
